Today is the day! These are the words I now repeat to myself every day.
I was getting tired of the same old daily stay at home mommy routine. I love my husband and children, but there was something missing. I have an ongoing affair with “COMP”, my Compaq laptop and now one of my best friends ever.
I decided I needed to work. Something to do other than the family or home. I have 3 kids, ages 4, 2 and 1-year-old. Babysitting alone would eat up any check that a degree less mommy could earn at a part-time job here in the midwest. Add the cost of gas to go back and forth to work which is at present $3.06 a gallon- I was doomed from the start.
I was playing around on “COMP” one day, learning how to use a digital paint program. Yes, I was becoming an artist. I found a site where I could try to sell some of my creations and listed them. Feel free to take a look, http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/jennifer-lesherarellano.html Comments good or bad are always a good thing, right?
I also began writing, just to write. I first wrote http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Death-Of-My-Father and a few others that are found at this site also. I got a few good comments. OK! so now I can say I am an artist and published author. I had one problem. I needed to make some money. Have you ever heard of ” the starving artist “? OK-OK!!! so I definitely am NOT a comedian.
One day I saw an ad about working online and all the money a person could make…..blah, blah, blah. Today is the day. I might not know how to do much but I will try this today! , and so I did. I set up a profile, listed the few things that I could do with ease and I applied for jobs. A week later nothing, but once again I said, Today is the day- and so I applied some more. I then returned to play my games on ” a popular social site ” and forgot about it.
About 4 hours later I got an e-mail from the freelance site. I nervously read the life changing note. I had won my first contract. Hurray! Hurray! I think I gave my neighbor lady a heart spasm. I went to the site and then it sank in, oh! I have a job. What if I can’t do this? What if I’m not good enough? STOP! I told myself, TODAY IS THE DAY. Guess what- it was. I successfully did the job and received glowing feedback. The best part of it all- I had earned some pretty good money from my home with nobody’s help, except for “COMP”.
I had surprised myself and still do from time to time. I now feel I can give some advice to others like me:
You can be anything you want. You might not have a degree, but you can learn. You might be scared, but you can grow courageous. All you have to do is try and try. Tell yourself regularly –Today Is The Day. Why not make it today?
